On World Environment Day, renowned instrumentalist-composer Grammy Jury Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee has initiated a tree plantation program in the premises of legendary Rabindra Sangeet exponent  Kanika Bandyopadhyay’s house. A Gulancha tree was planted in memory of the martyred of Operation Sindoor and it was named “Desh”, a Palash sapling was planted for the residents of Nabina and Khanika Home, which was named after the raga “Bahar”, and the third tree, an Amaltas , which was named “Lalit”, was dedicated to the land of Santiniketan.

All three saplings have been named after the ragas of Indian Classical Music. This soil is like the soil of self-sacrifice, and again the soil of music ,art and  culture. Such an initiative was taken in Santiniketan, the land of peace and tranquility of Rabindranath Tagore’s soul, especially in the premises of the residence of the legendary Rabindra Sangeet legend Kanika Bandopadhyay. Everyone on behalf of the artist’s family is happy with this initiative. In cooperation with Elmhurst Institute and Mohar Bithika Angan. Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee, Priyam Mukherjee, Ritapa Bhattacharya and others were present at this tree plantation program. The name of such  ragas was used which Rabindranath Tagore repeatedly in creating his melodies.

Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee said, “June 5 is World Environment Day as well as my birthday. If the earth on which I grew up and breathe oxygen from the air is not healthy, what will we leave to our own generation and future generations? Earlier, I planted trees on a disused musical instrument. It was good to see and useful. Now, I have come to this sacred land and planted trees, which is a matter of honor, pride and respect for me.” On behalf of the Elmhurst Institute of Community Studies, Priyam Mukherjee and Ritapa Bhattacharya said, “The significance of planting Palash saplings for the girls of the home is very deep. They are the ambassadors of  youth.” It has been conceptualized by Sudipta Chanda.
