Well written article describing what is most needed now. Media should be responsible while reporting. Mere sensationalism does more harm than good. Sensationalism with sense is the most lacking aspect currently. Just to exemplify the foolishness of a few media reporters. The other day a news presenter on a prominent national channel said “Bizzare statement by a Tamilnadu MLA regarding alcohol ban. He says sudden ban on alcohol will cause more harm than good” These were the exact words used by the reporter. The fact is sudden cessation of alcohol consumption by a chronic alcoholic causes a dreadful complication called alcohol withdrawal syndrome. So the MLA was correct and it was the reporter who spoke bizarrely. It’s the responsibility of media houses to assign reporters who have some knowledge about the subject they are reporting. Just selecting good looking journalists with no knowledge on the subject they are talking about is as irresponsible as asking an engineering graduate to treat malaria.

For the embedded media, the question really was, Friend or Foe ? Too much coverage – even avoidance of coverage – is now decided by this criterion.
