When Shri Sharad Pawar turned 50, the Assembly was in session in Nagpur. The encomiums showered upon him from the Opposition benches were even more filled with affection and respect. That tenure as CM, from 1988 to 1991, was in some ways more rewarding and less troubled than the next, which ended with the SS – BJP coming to power in March 1995. A phenomenal memory. Knows the geography of the state down to each small field where a chopper can land.
It’s a great article so as to describe a politician of rare attributes. In democracy, personal traits matter as long as it helps the public decide whether he should be voted in or out. But he miuses his traits in every other way to benefit himself, his family members, friends, his district, his society while ignoring all others, then in overall way he has done little for the society or country. Why couldn’t he make other constituencies better like Baramati? Why couldn’t the whole of Maharastra develop rather than just Mumbai and Baramati? Pawar is definitely a politician of rare acumen, but the general public should remember him by what he did, rather than what his personal traits are, how he made friends, etc. In that capacity, Amar Singh of SP cultivated much better ties with other politicians. But what for?? Just to amuse the public!!!
