The way Modi govt is treating its own people, I believe India is destined to torn into pieces. The day is not far when Indian Muslims will demand another separate and Sikhs, Jains and other communities will demand separate states for them too. Indian leaderships bigotry will take it nowhere.
Let’s not expect a repeat what Nehru Congress did at least from BJP led Modi. When deal was made PK had his share as well Bangla, then y they attack every now and then. it sounds soon India further b sectioned into PK -2 for separate Muslims if Muslims outnumber Hindu, India is only Hindu nation left but question is how long
How long writers are going to talk about dead people who are not alive to defend. Sam Manekshaw is a brilliant army man and all salutes to him. Like any other human being he was also but arrogant towards others. Autobiography are also some time turned Autofiction to make it a good read. However I am not questioning writers freedom to praise Modi Shah but to do that let him not drag Nehru and Patel are still fighting against each other in grave and Gandhiji is mediating
Pakistan has taken a two prong strategy. It will make terror acts in India a very regular affairswith some help from local Indian Muslism, and it will encourage Bangladesh Jamat to send migrants to India from all entry points and slowly merge with the rest of the population making India as a Muslim majority nation in another fifty years.
In Kashmir valley we have to maintain a significant military presence to keep the land against a local sentiment against what is referred to as “Indian Rule” and the author is talking about adding other parts of the current day Pakistan to this mix where it’s difficult to imagine if the scenario would have been any different .This would have stretched the army further more ,not to mention the human and economic costs of keeping such an occupation against the local sentiment .Anyone suggesting this is disregarding experiences of superpowers like the US in afganistan ,Iraq or Vietnam which should teach a valuable lesson regarding occupying lands against the local population and to what ends – just to make the India map bigger as the local insurgency slowly drains the economy ?
In the middle of all this pileup on poor Nehru, remember his biggest accomplishment regarding the India Pakistan boundary that nobody talks about today, Gurdaspur district of Punjab., on 15th August 1947, the initial award had this district going to Pakistan, in fact a Pakistani person came up and took over the charge as district commissioner, Nehru was lobbying Mountbatten in the background to keep this district in India, the decision was reversed on 17 August 1947, the Pakistani guy goes back and an Indian bureaucrat comes in and takes over the charge. If I am not mistaken a special independence day celebration is held on 17 August here. Had this district going to Pakistan, all this talk of Kashmir would have been moot because India would have had no direct Road or Rail link there.
Where are the Nehru and Gandhi family apologists? If anyone who questions the role of Nehru and Gandhi family in messing the J&K issue is termed as bhakt by these apologists.
Informative and interesting article. However, now that China is a part of the issue due to Shaksgam valley, CPEC, Karakoram highway, it is not just a India Pakistan issue but a trilateral one in practical sense. China will do anything to defend its assets there. It is a sad story how we committed many Himalayan blunders and ignored our national interest. It seems Nehru didnot have a sense of borders, which defines our country. We should now look to settle the issue with both Pak and China on as is basis and move ahead. In future, if people of Gilgit Baltistan wish to join India, it is a different story. India should try for that as well as break Baluchistan away from Pakistan. That would be a recompense for the lost part of J&K.
A well analysed and written article which brings out the duplicity of our own country menand a lack of strategic thought. It may not be the easiest now in view of Chinese investments and their OBOR initiative. However, our Military leadership is upto it, the political will is the question.
I have seen a few video blogs of this region, scenic beauty, simple, hearty food, gentle, God fearing people. Does the columnist have any knowledge / idea of whether they wish to become part of India., have launched any major movement to achieve that desired objective.
I spent a month in the north of Pakistan in 2009 and if Gilgit-Baltstan was restored to J&K it would become an amazing tourism area. The Pakistan side is more pristine than the Kashmir Valley. You will find a lot of articles on the Gilgit-Baltistan resistance movement on Google…. https://www.business-standard.com/article/news-ani/resistance-mounting-against-illegal-occupation-of-pok-gilgit-118112800388_1.html
I am from Hunza Valley. To me, your biased assessment of some sort of a rebellion going on in GB is more laughable than the ludicrous aspirations of the author of the article we are commenting on. I doubt you even visited the country.
The indigenous shia are against the punjabi Sunni. Heck they even have nothing to do with Kashmiri Sunnis. They GB locals are ethnically closer to the Ladhakis. Btw many pakis will pretend to be GB locals and troll like here.
First, Nehru with his ego with Patel lead to so many problems. Patel handled entire India uniting 500+ princely states and Nehru had one and that too failed. Second, trusting of muslims to join India was a no go, which a country was created for them. Expecting them to loyal in Maharaja’s army was clear no-no and expecting British command general in Gilgit was a clear blunder. In the thick of creating a country based on religion, I am sure every muslim solider would have felt happy to support Pakistan than India and it is quite natural. Third, Indian leadership never learn their lesson, either in 1962 or in 1965 or in 1971, the last major war creating Bangladesh. Simply gifting 90000 prisoners without a proper deal to take back your territory was like suicide. Indian politicians those days want to look goody-goody with western powers, who did not care us. Finally, even now if we do not apply the lessons learnt and still go the same way like those early years, we are not doing justice to this country. Modi and his team is right in getting the international opinion to their side and Pakistan is clearly cornered with no one supporting them (except their China) on Kashmir issue. Coming days are crucial and one need to be clear who should be in command in Kashmir to ensure that the same follies committed in 1948 will not repeat. Of course, someone will come and suggest that we should talk to Pakistan and China… well, I don’t think they get the message.
