Headline is clickbait. Daughters are actually in far better positions today even in middle and poorer Indian families today than in earlier generations. I have seen maids and drivers who do their best to educate their daughters and don’t mind the fact that they have 2 daughters, no sons. This would have been unthinkable even 2 decades ago.
This is not to trivialize these deaths. But this is exactly the type of headline that Western media is hungry for when it comes to India. Yes, these stories need coverage but the headline is nauseating.
