Indian electoral history shows that after Nehru the only PM to win a second term after completing a full first term is Dr. Manmohan Singh in 2009. Not even Indira Gandhi has been able to attain this feat. This just shows the electoral power of a stellar economic performance, which alone guarantees a second term. If the economy and job growth remain as weak in 2019 as they are now, BJP will most likely be relegated to Opposition benches despite Hindu nationalism and Modi-Shah electoral management.
Dale Carnegie would have committed suicide after reading this article, for the positive results got by a party which is 132 years old , has to depend on three street urchins. Now they say Moral victory…. Height of stupidity.
Congress had outsourced its campaign in Gujarat to three caste leaders. You should have the gaffes of your favourite leader too [ 43000 crore acres of land to Adanis and 33000 crore rupees to Tatas] IN Gujarat Congress cynically tried to divide Hindus along caste lines for electoral advantage.[ It is adopting same tactics in Karnataka by enticing Lingayats to agitate for minority status] Is this the type of politics that you want to praise?
Every one went gaga when Ra Ga visited 27 temples in Gujarat.Which temple did he go to in Delhi after being “elected” as president of Congress? Did he touch his mother’s feet to seek her blessings when elected? How do you see this “transformation” in your leader once elections are over? 2018 could be a walkover for BJP – same for 2019 because we got Congress led by RaGa.
India’s election is not about touching feet, its rather Roti Kapada aur Makaan !! I think that will play important role. Pakodanomics too. GST plus Demonetization where a businessman committed suicide.
Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh will be a real challenge. With seasoned CMs like like Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Raman Singh, anti incumbency has taken almost fifteen years to build up. Rajasthan is on a much shorter fuse. Should these three states disappoint towards the close of 2018, they will queer the pitch for the general election. There seems to be a case to prepone the Lok Sabha election and to merge it with assembly elections in these three important states. 2. The supporter who told the columnist in 2015 that the economy would be performing strongly towards the close of the first term spoke for most Indians. That was what the mandate pronmised and made possible.
