Government’s order on pre-installing Sanchar Saathi in phones symbolised an alarming and disproportionate overreach, with user privacy and autonomy at the centre of debate. Mandating a directionless, opaque app without any cybercrime reporting showed misplaced priorities and lack of tech policy vision. Good that it’s gone, and must stay gone.
