A day after Ukraine’s stunning drone attacks deep inside Russia, the two countries are already sitting across the table negotiating peace in Turkey. That’s how grown-up countries behave. It may seem contradictory to engage in talks even as military blitz continues. But real-world diplomacy works in awkward and messy ways.

Prem Shukla’s remarks on Congress spokesperson’s mother are vile. BJP must expel him

BJP spokesperson Prem Shukla’s despicable remark about his Congress counterpart’s mother during a TV debate reflects the rapidly plummeting standards of public discourse. Only a sick, psychotic mind uses such vile language as a political rejoinder. BJP must expel him and teach its members the cultural values it proudly espouses.

Drone warfare is well and truly here. And it has upended conventional strategic edge

The age of drone warfare is well and truly here. It has blurred the lines between conventional power dynamics and so-called military edge. Ukraine’s “Spider’s Web” operation hit deep in Russian territory, took out bombers. Russia’s Pearl Harbour moment or not, a new era of arms race is upon us.

Gukesh delivered brilliant & composed play at Norway Chess. Carlsen needs to learn

When Carlsen banged the table after losing a chess game against Gukesh, it showed petulance, not passion. Gukesh delivered brilliant and composed play at Norway Chess. 1. Diplomacy is always to be preferred to war. So it is good that Russian and Ukrainian delegations are meeting, although no one is holding their breath over the outcome. Last time, 1,000 PoWs were exchanged. This time it will be the mortal remains of six thousand soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. 2. My sense is that when the parliamentary delegations are debriefed, the message they would be carrying home from foreign governments, media, civil society, business groups is, South Asia is home to two billion people. One fourth of humanity. Not integrated as other regular are. Water stressed in a time of climate change. Please find a way to sit together and plot a peaceful way to a shared future. Don’t let the shadow of the chinaar blight your destiny.

  2. Where is the editorial take on Ms. Sharmishtha Panoli’s arrest by Kolkata Police?
The Print editorial board fulminated when Prof. Mahumadabad, a repeat offender serving in the faculty of the infamous Ashoka University, was arrested.
Where is your indignation and rage now?
Is it your case that freedom of expression is a fundamental right of members of only one religious community?
    Shame on The Print!
