Indian unicorns and tech start-ups are soaring, doing IPOs, attracting more private equity investors and even acquiring companies. Their spectacular rise was helped by largely hands-off government policies. This should apply to e-commerce too. The government should listen to industry bodies and revise contentious clauses in the draft e-commerce rules.

The unseemly politics over how many Indians died because of oxygen shortage during the second Covid wave shows a profound lack of empathy. This tragedy can’t be reduced to mere collection of statistics. It needs a visible, collective demonstration of acknowledgement, apology and accountability by leaders across parties, not denial.
