Screening social media of international students applying for US visa isn’t surprising. It was the logical next step in Trump’s quixotic campus clean-up. It’s panic-inducing and dulls the seductive idea of America for many. This hammer-like approach will ultimately hurt the US, if carried too far. Foreign students bring revenue.

Manipur conflict needs a decisive political dialogue. Delay will only worsen social fabric

Manipur remains volatile. Airlifting Governor Ajay Bhalla to Raj Bhawan amid protests is a reminder about how fragile the situation still is, despite President’s Rule. Lull in violence shouldn’t be mistaken for peace. A decisive, inclusive political dialogue is essential to bring stability. Delay will only worsen the social fabric.

  1. India has the human capital to create a world class higher education system. So many Indian – Americans on the faculty of top US institutions. Why should so many young Indians wish to study in America. A visionary Minister for Education. Invite foreign universities to set up campuses in India. Let a zephyr of academic freedom and rigour billow through JNU, Ashoka University, the IITs and IIMs.

  2. Quixotic? What makes you say so., Ms. Shailaja Bajpai?
Just because people like you who support terrorist organisations like Hamas will not be granted student visas.
President Trump is doing the right thing by introducing social media checks for people applying for US visa. If someone is a supporter of UN sanctioned terrorist organisations, he/she has no right to be in the US. If someone is fundamentally non-aligned with the foundational ideals of the USA, he/she does not deserve a US visa. It’s as simple as that.
No wonder the likes of Ms. Shailaja Bajpai are taking umbrage at this. The liberal-secular cabal, of which is a distinguished member, has always abused the freedoms and rights enshrined in the Constitutions of democratic nations like USA, UK, France, India, etc.

  3. The Print’s editorial team hates President Trump simply because he is weeding out the Left-liberal cabal which had taken over American academia. This very same Left-liberal cabal based out of elite American universities has been the fountainhead of inspiration for the Indian Left-liberals. Aided and abetted by the American “guru”, the Indian “shishya” took control over Indian colleges and universities. This resulted in JNU, Jamia, AMU, Jadavpur, TISS, FTII and other such universities becoming virtual republics – places where India’s identity, territorial integrity and sovereignty were questioned.
Under patronage of successive Congress administrations, the Left-liberal cabal got a stranglehold over Indian higher education. Situation is so dire that academics like Nivedita Menon (JNU) openly call for the dismemberment of India.
No wonder The Print loves such scumbags.
