Manipur is on perpetual edge. Centre can’t look away after installing a BJP government

Manipur is on perpetual edge. Killing of an infant and a five-year-old in a bomb attack, a mob storming a CRPF camp that left three dead, exposes a government out of its depth. Years of neglect won’t be fixed by optics. Centre can’t look away after re-installing a BJP government.

  1. Given how close West Asia was to the abyss, everyone ( including Dalal Street, no pun intended ) should applaud this two week reprieve. 2. The sustainable path ahead is ensuring Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons ( although at least a dozen major nations are now seriously considering that prospect ) and its integration into the global economy. An end to sanctions. Full restoration of its oil and natural gas production potential. Contracts to western oil majors as well, for exploration. 3. Iran, like Saudi Arabia and Israel, is a major power in the region. It has to be accommodated with respect. Making it another Syria and Libya is not good for anyone, including Israel. 4. India’s West Asia policy needs to be tweaked a little to restore the earlier warmth and trust with Iran.
