Current embarrassing news for the country is of deportation of Indians (students and workers) from USA. Not just that. Subsequently, some news media say 20 thousand Indian students have disappeared in Canada! Only after sometime we can know what is going to happen with them.  Such problems with Indian students seem to exist in UK,  Australia etc. Further, problems with migrant Indian workers in some countries. Migration to other countries, students or workers or asylum seekers is nothing new but was there since long. India also had problems with refugees and there was a time when people were commenting on India as Dharamshala /charitable dwelling (Please do not misunderstand this as referring to Dharmashala in Himachal Pradesh. This word was used much after). USA since long was being referred to as “Land of Immigrants”.  Because of past empires and colonization of countries by others so many from other countries have been legally accommodated in the host countries (erst while colonizers). And because of conflicts in different countries on the globe many have become refugees in other countries.  Unfortunately, UNHCR (United nations High Commission for Refugees) has not done enough. Of course, the responsibility of UNHCR is not there for students and workers migrating through agents/middle men illegally. Really Indians are adventurous! It is very surprising as to how their family members agree to them for such migrations! As per some news media some have paid as high as 40 lakhs to the middlemen to land in USA ! Mind boggling. With that much money they could have fetched a government job or do some business. Even if they were not deported when they can recover that much amount of money–40 Lakhs!? Even for well-paid legally migrated workers it takes many years to earn 40 lakhs.  Therefore, it is puzzling as to what propelled them to follow different “dunki/donkey” routes to go for greener pastures! So how to visualize the future and what to be done in future?? India has a huge population of 1.45 billion with limited resources. So, migrating to other countries is inevitable. Country simply cannot support them. Hence, measures for legal migration have to be thought over. One way is to request corporates -Indian and others to invest in other countries and accommodate Indians as workers in their organizations. Similarly, investing in education sector and accommodate Indian students. Other than the above all Indians badly feel the low currency value of Indian rupee. Value of Indian currency vis-à-vis other stronger currencies must be increased considerably and at the earliest. Not he least. Indians wish to migrate to other countries both legally and otherwise because the social freedom there is high! India is yet to become progressive and liberated.
