We are living in an era where we have to start saying artificial is not artificial anymore, at least in terms of what Artificial Intelligence (AI) can offer.
The fact that we term our intelligence as real and the one we created as artificial doesn’t shy away from the reality that it has shown our general creativity seemingly like a canvas in a child’s playground. At least the speed at which we now see a creative output is generated by AI is beyond our real intelligence. The only solace if it is true, is for a mere namesake to believe that we use only 10% of our competency. AI has transformed to such a level that we have started eulogizing its competency so much that we are ready to agree that it’s not artificial anymore.
When do we actually call someone intelligent?. It’s with the memory and the creative power they possess.
The memory acts on the knowledge we learned, the reasoning we exhibit from the knowledge we have, the creativity that takes the knowledge to the next level which is nothing but the inventions. With creativity we have not only achieved inventions but also the realizations in the form of art, cinema, stories and all that entertains us.
The importance of knowledge that complements our memory has long gone with the advent of the internet and google. The only thing that is left now is our creativity. This is selectively getting eroded with the advancement in AI. When i say selective means AI can only give creative outputs depending on the input we give. Though it’s still in our control, the range of creativity and reasoning it can exhibit is beyond our imagination.
We pride our creativity as superior and the power of reasoning as exemplary which is now easily possible with chatGPT,Llama,Deepseek,Gemini, Grok, xAI etc. If someone provides such results as fast as AI can we would say that person is a genius. Keeping with those standards I would say AI has become the new reality of intelligence.
The speed at which AI acts on enormous amounts of data and gives us the conclusion in a matter of time is mind blowing. The applications that deliver images and videos with so much clarity and detailing is awe inspiring. Many of the competencies we have developed over many centuries thus have become easy choices on a platform.
With the vast ocean of knowledge available on the internet and with AI’s power of reasoning our intelligence will become less useful. Most of us still use the existing knowledge in many of our professions which will become less relevant. I think newer knowledge and inventions are the only aspects AI cannot touch. This should be taken as an opportunity rather than as a challenge.
Many of our professions and research areas where a large number of people are involved have more or less below competencies; these will be highly affected.
Some of the current AI competencies are:
- Data Analysis; generating reports from huge data, trends.
- Content generation;marketing, creating contents etc.
- Image recognition; Creating images, recognizing image patterns.
- Chat bots: Talking and reasoning like humans, programming.
However, there is a catch. First it depends on the accuracy of output. There are areas we need cent percent accuracy. Second is the integration of AI models. Each area of operation requires specialised integration which requires further research and implementation. Third is the kind of input we give, if we don’t ask the right question we will not get the correct answers.
As we see, not all of the AI models are 100% fool proof. Some can give awkward answers depending on the subject and the context. It has to be carefully chosen and integrated into each of the applications we plan to use.
AI needs to evolve still more before it can shake the current industries and replace existing professions on a massive scale. At present AI has only shown what kind of competency it can offer. Now it’s for us to evolve and assimilate with AI that still needs our support.
How the evolution of computers has affected many industries, it will be the same for AI.
This is like how computers replaced type writers; once typing was a staple profession for many until DTP came into existence. Photography evolved into digital cameras, even movies and songs moved away from tapes.
Many industries, professions and applications will have to make way for the advancement in technology, we can resist for some time, but not farther.
AI will be the future that makes many of our professions extant or extinct. However the new opportunities for more people to get involved in inventions is a far greater positive sign.
