New Delhi: The Stanford AI Index 2024 report has given a boost to the growing AI ecosystem in India. According to the report, India’s AI skill penetration rate is now 2.8 percent, which surpasses the United States’ 2.2 percent and Germany’s 1.9 percent, a PIB press release stated.

This growth is expected to continue in the coming years, with the AI market in India projected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 25-35 percent.

The FutureSkills PRIME program of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is one of the initiatives in the government to support the growth of the AI sector. The program offers re-skilling and up-skilling opportunities for IT manpower in 10 emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. So far, 18.56 lakh candidates have signed up for the FutureSkills PRIME portal, with 3.37 lakh candidates completing their course.

The Centers of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, a part of the MeitY scheme in collaboration with NASSCOM, support startups in developing AI-based tools and applications for manufacturing companies. Several such initiatives have already been implemented by companies in the manufacturing sector.

The YUVAi: Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI programme, an initiative of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and MeitY, aims to empower school students from classes 8th to 12th with AI tech and social skills. The initiative will provide a platform for students to learn and apply AI skills in various thematic areas such as Krishi, Aarogya, Shiksha, Paryavaran, Parivahan, Grameen Vikas, Smart Cities, and Vidhi aur Nyaay.
