VIENNA (Reuters) – Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg will be named caretaker chancellor later on Wednesday, Austrian media reported, taking over from Karl Nehammer, who quit when centrist coalition talks collapsed over the weekend.
Schallenberg already served as chancellor for two months in 2021 after Sebastian Kurz stepped down because he was placed under investigation on suspicion of corruption offences that he denied.
Austria’s conservative-led government is serving in a caretaker capacity until a new coalition government is formed.
