New Delhi: Australian cricket great Shane Warne died of natural causes, an autopsy report has shown. Warne died last Friday from a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand, his family had confirmed in a statement.

The Thai police said Monday that Warne’s family were told of the autopsy report and they had accepted the finding, Reuters reported.

Warne, who ended his remarkable international career in 2007 with 708 test wickets, was 52.

His body would be transferred to the Australian consulate to be returned to his family, the Thai police said.

Officer Kissana Phathanacharoen said in a statement: “Today investigators received the autopsy result, in which the medical opinion is that the cause of death is natural.”

The police also said: “Investigators will summarise the autopsy result for prosecutors within the timeframe of the law.”

Warne, one of the finest spin bowlers of cricket, was found unresponsive in a villa in Koh Samui last Friday, where he had been holidaying with friends.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called him “one of our nation’s greatest characters”.
