New Delhi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated $17.5 million in grants to support improvement in women’s agricultural skills and to boost food security in Tajikistan, an ADB release stated.
The Resilient Livelihoods and Empowerment of Rural Women Project aims to enhance the productivity of women-led farms, strengthen agriculture processing and storage facilities, and improve support for vulnerable women in six districts in Khatlon province.
The project will provide various agricultural inputs such as drying facilities, greenhouses, and water-saving irrigation technologies to female farmers as well as training opportunities in financial management and production technologies.
The project will also establish a gender-based violence shelter with referral and training opportunities for women survivors of domestic and other forms of violence under the guidance of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs and the Khatlon Administration.
The ADB is committed to supporting women as agents of change in Asia and the Pacific. This project is expected to have a transformative impact on the lives of rural women and contribute to the nation’s food security objectives, ADB Director General for Central and West Asia Yevgeniy Zhukov said.
