New Delhi Times, a print and online Indian international weekly that focuses on international news, completed 20 years of being a registered newspaper.
The newspaper started as an English publication, and a Hindi edition was started in 1994. It covers various international themes including politics, economy, investment, sports, and culture. More recently, the focus has also tilted on domestic politics.
New Delhi Times (NDT) was founded by Dr Govind Narain Srivastava, an accredited parliamentary correspondent and expert on non-aligned movement and international affairs, in 1988.
After his demise in 1999, Dr Pramila Srivastava became the newspaper’s chairman and took charge. Ankit Srivastava, who had more than 18 years of experience working with the United Nations on human rights and 15 years of experience in the field of journalism, joined the team as the chief editor in 2006.
Having been in publication for the past 28 years, the weekly now has a 12-page print edition and a 24-page online edition (e-paper), with a team of 25 journalists working for it.
The news website was launched in 2011. As reported in April 2020, the news website received traffic of around 2 million visitors a month. For print, New Delhi Times reported a readership of 1.2 million in Delhi-NCR itself.
Many notable columnists, journalists, and politicians such as David Kilgour, Tarek Fatah have been associated with the newspaper. Tarek Fatah hosts “What the Fatah”, an online show, on the YouTube channel of New Delhi Times.
NDT has also collaborated with several non-government organisations such as the International Institute for Non–Aligned Studies, the Indian Council of Education, Breast Milk Foundation, and the GNS Foundation to spread awareness about the work these organisations do. NDT is part of Srivastava Group that has diversified businesses in healthcare, travel, trading, publishing, energy, and more.
Unlike many newspapers, New Delhi Times avoids choosing a political side in national or international politics and doesn’t align itself on either side. The news on the website and the work of the journalists appear to be balanced.
