New Delhi: Hockey India has announced a programme that aims to cultivate young drag-flickers and goalkeepers across the country.
Former India goalkeepers Adrian D’Souza, Bharat Chetri, Yogita Bali, Helen Mary, Dipika Murty, Akash Chikte, PT Rao, and prominent former India drag-flickers Rupinder Pal Singh, Jugraj Singh, VR Raghunath, and Gurjinder Singh participated in a virtual meeting on the occasion, according to a press statement by per Hockey India.
Those part of the meeting discussed the importance of goalkeeping and drag-flicking coaching at the grassroots level.
The new initiative, it said, will focus on identifying and honing the skills of young talents in the pivotal positions of drag-flickers and goalkeepers, with a goal of building a strong pipeline of talent for the nation’s prestigious hockey teams.
The programme will include a 3-day training session at premier national academies across India for the former players, followed by the identification and training of the most promising young talents. Hockey India will offer compensation for their time and efforts, as well as support for any other incidental expenses, it said.
