New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday rolled out the Congress’s five “guarantees” made in the run-up to the 10 May elections.

After a Cabinet meeting held Friday, Siddaramaiah said all five would be implemented from this financial year.

The Congress promised 200 units of free power to all households under the Gruha Jyoti scheme. This will come into effect from 1 July, Siddaramaiah said.

Ten kgs of food grain will also be given to every member of a below-poverty-line household and Antyodaya card holders as part of the Anna Bhagya scheme. This will also begin 1 July.

The state will give from 15 August a monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 to the woman head of a family under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.

Unemployed youth with a graduate degree will also get Rs 3,000 every month, and Rs 1,500 will be given to unemployed diploma holders – both in the age group of 18 to 25 years. This scheme is called Yuva Nidhi.

All women can also travel free in public transport buses, the state government has said.

Siddaramaiah said the schemes will be for all, irrespective of caste and religion.

The Congress, which won 135 of the 224 seats in the May elections, has estimated that these schemes will cost the exchequer Rs 50,000 crore every year.
