Rakesh Anand Bakshi was our guest at ThePrint’s latest Off The Cuff. In a conversation with Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta, Bakshi spoke about the life and struggles of his father, soldier-turned-lyricist Anand Bakshi.

Bakshi discussed his new book, ‘Nagme, Kisse, Baatein, Yaadein’. The Life & Lyrics of Anand Bakshi’, and shared how he got the idea of writing a book on his father, after the latter’s death. He said he just wanted to have his father’s story told, and recollected his fondest memories with him.

Bakshi discussed the versatility of his father’s writing, speaking candidly about the kind of person he was, and described him as someone who always felt like an outsider in the industry. He also described how his father went about his work, and revealed that for his songwriting, Anand Bakshi would go to “ground zero” where he had no memory of what he had previously written.
