Congress searches for ideology, and going too far back in past to avoid questions on present

The best cartoons of the day, chosen by the editors at ThePrint.

R Prasad | Economic Times | Twitter@rprasad66

The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online, or on social media, and are credited appropriately.

In today’s featured cartoon, R. Prasad takes a jibe at the Congress’ three-day ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir‘ in Rajasthan’s Udaipur. He suggests that what the party needs is an ideology, but only one in which the leadership (read: the Gandhis) will be front-and-centre.

Sandeep Adhwaryu | Times of India | Twitter/@CartoonistSan

Sandeep Adhwaryu alludes to the split verdict by the Delhi High Court on the criminalisation of marital rape. The cartoonist uses the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, meaning the world is one family, to draw parallels to countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Libya, which aren’t exactly known to have a good human rights record.

Cartoonist Alok | Twitter/@caricatured

Alok Nirantar takes a swipe at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, for recently saying that India has not breached the inflation target so badly, even as the country reels under surging prices.

Kirtish Bhat | BBC | Twitter/@Kirtishbhat

Kirtish Bhat also draws on the rising inflation in the country, while taking a dig at the ongoing politics around the history of the Taj Mahal and Qutab Minar.

Sajith Kumar | Deccan Herald | Twitter/@sajithkumar

Meanwhile, Sajith Kumar draws attention to the Supreme Court suspending all pending trials, appeals and proceedings, with respect to charges under the sedition law — Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) — till the central government reviews its provisions.
