Saharanpur (UP), Mar 2 (PTI) A 28-year-old man was apprehended on Monday after he allegedly attempted to set fire to ‘Holika’ ahead of the scheduled time in a village under the Mirzapur area, police said.

The incident occurred in Alipur Naugawa village when the accused, identified as Pala, son of Mannat Ram, reached the ‘Holika Dahan’ site and tried to ignite it, officials said.

Members of the Holika Dahan committee and a beat constable present at the spot acted promptly and foiled the attempt, preventing any disturbance to public order.

The accused was overpowered and handed over to the police.

Circle Officer S N Vaibhav Pandey told PTI that a case is being registered against the accused and legal proceedings are underway.

He added that the law and order situation at the site remains normal. PTI COR ABN APL APL
