Barabanki (UP), Dec 16 (PTI) Two people were killed and three others injured after a speeding car collided with another vehicle amid dense fog on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred near Sariyan village under the Haidergarh Kotwali area when a Maruti Ertiga, attempting to overtake another vehicle, rammed into a Mahindra Scorpio moving ahead, they said.

Due to poor visibility caused by fog, the drivers of both vehicles failed to spot traffic on the expressway in time, the police said, adding that the impact was so severe that the Ertiga was flung into the air and fell into a roadside ditch after skidding off the road.

Babloo (35), a resident of Bahuhara village in Bihar’s Chapra district, and Deepak Kumar (36) from Hanumangarh in Lalganj area of Azamgarh district, who were travelling in the Ertiga, died in the accident, they said.

The injured were identified as Mohammad Tahir (55), Asif (22) and Kamruddin Ansari (64), all residents of Azamgarh district. They were initially admitted to a nearby hospital and later referred to the district hospital for further treatment.

On receiving information, local police rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. The damaged vehicles were seized and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, the police said. PTI COR KIS NB NB
