Imphal, Dec 10 (PTI) Security forces arrested two members of proscribed outfits in Manipur for allegedly being involved in extortion activities, police said on Wednesday.
A 30-year-old cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) was apprehended from Langol Laimanai area in Imphal West district on Tuesday, a senior officer said.
The accused hails from Toupokpi Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district.
One member of the banned KYKL (O) was arrested from Moreh in Tengnoupal district on Monday, the officer said.
Security forces also recovered one improvised mortar, two bombs and 27 blank cases of arms during an operation in Hengkapkot village in Churachandpur district on Tuesday, he said.
Search operations have been conducted in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out two years ago.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
The Centre had, on February 13, imposed the President’s rule in the state after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned.
