New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a consultation paper on the revision of the National Numbering Plan, a PIB press release stated.

The proposal is aimed at ensuring an adequate reservoir of telecommunication identifiers (TIS) resources for the continued growth of telecommunications services in a sustainable manner. The current proposal will also address the present and future constraints related to the availability of adequate fixed line numbering resources.

As per the proposal, the TRAI will assess the growth in the number of telephone subscribers and services in the country and propose recommendations for the allocation and utilization of TIs.

The consultation paper is open to stakeholders, including telecom operators, network equipment manufacturers, and wire companies. The revision of the National Numbering Plan is in line with the changing telecommunications landscape in India and the need for a more flexible and adaptable approach to network numbering.

The proposal aims to ensure that TIs serve as the foundation for universal accessibility, facilitating reliable service delivery to consumers, businesses, and industries across various communication technologies.
