Self-appointed godman Nithyananda’s ‘representative’ at UN demands end to his ‘persecution’

A woman, who called herself Vijayapriya Nithyananda, told a UN panel that she was the permanent ambassador of the godman's country, the 'United State of Kailasa'.

New Delhi: A representative of the fictional country of  the “United States of Kailasa” has demanded protection for Nithyananda— the “Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism” — who, she claimed at a United Nations meeting last week, was being persecuted. The fictional country —off the coast of Ecuador —was founded by self-titled godman and fugitive Nithyananda, who is accused of sexual assault and abuse in India.

A woman, who called herself Vijayapriya Nithyananda, represented “Kailasa” as its “permanent ambassador” at a meeting of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) in Geneva on 22 February, Moneycontrol reported.

In her speech, she opined that the “Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism” has gone through “intense persecution” and “human rights violations” in his attempts at “reviving indigenous traditions and a lifestyle of Hinduism”.

Defending the godman, the representative further requested the UN to “take measures” to stop the “persecution” of Nithyananda and the two million “diaspora population” in the country of Kailasa.

Kailasa, reportedly located off the coast of Ecuador, has its own passport, flag and even a “Reserve Bank of Kailasa”. In December 2020, Nithyananda had even announced flights to his so-called nation.

Nithyananda fled India after a rape case was registered against him in 2019, and founded his own “Hindu sovereign nation” called “Kailasa”, and also issued visas to tourists, and invited people for a three-day tour.

An FIR was registered in November 2019 against the controversial figure on charges of kidnapping and wrongful confinement of children to make them collect donations from followers to run his ashram, Yogini Sarvagyapeetham. He is also a rape accused, and in June 2018, a Karnataka special court framed charges against him.
