The state assembly paid tributes to those who died in the Ahmedabad plane crash, slain Abohar businessman Sanjay Verma and veteran Akali leader and former Union minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.
The House also paid tributes to AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal, and other personalities who passed away recently.
The first day’s proceeding lasted just 11 minutes.
Cabinet minister Aman Arora sought from the Speaker that tributes be paid to those who died in the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12.
AAP MLA Amandeep Singh Musafir sought obituary references for businessman Verma, who was shot dead on July 7 by three assailants.
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan lauded the Punjab Police’s swift action against the accused in the Abohar murder incident.
Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa also supported Musafir for the inclusion of Verma’s name in obituary references and said there was an atmosphere of fear in five to six districts of the Malwa region because of the murder incident.
Bajwa questioned Speaker Sandhwan’s claim of the state police swift action, saying there was no clarification yet in the matter.
While veteran Akali leader Dhindsa passed away in May, AAP MLA Sohal died last month.
Besides, the House also remembered eminent scholar Rattan Singh Jaggi and three soldiers –Naik Surinder Singh, Lance Naik Baljit Singh and Lance Naik Gurpreet Singh.
