Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said only the central government has the authority to frame a law to regulate online gaming.
Speaking in the legislative assembly, the CM said he has raised the issue with the Centre.
“To stop online gaming, the Centre has to step in. Only the Centre can frame a law to regulate it. I have written to the Union government and the Information Technology Minister, and am following up the matter,” Fadnavis said.
Although gaming has become a popular leisure activity for many, its addiction is leading to problems among teenagers and youth. Sleep disturbances, lack of social activities, anxiety, depression and impairment in education are some of the issues.
Last week, state minister Pankaj Bhoyar told the Lower House of the legislature that the state government would request the Centre to enact a special law for effective regulation of online lottery and gaming platforms. PTI MR NP
