Om Birla Pays Floral Tribute to former LS speaker Rabi Ray on birth anniversary

Rabi Ray served as Lok Sabha Speaker from 1989 to 1991.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led a delegation of parliamentarians in paying floral tributes to former Lok Sabha Speaker Rabi Ray on his birth anniversary at Samvidhan Sadan on Tuesday, a PIB press release stated.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, along with Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh and Secretaries-General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Utpal Kumar Singh and P.C., Modi, respectively, also paid their respects.

Rabi Ray was born on November 26, 1926, in Bhanaragarh village, Puri district, Odisha. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1967 and served as the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare. He held the office of Speaker of the Ninth Lok Sabha from December 19, 1989, to July 9, 1991.

Ray’s portrait is displayed in the Outer Lobby of Samvidhan Sadan. It was unveiled by former President Pranab Mukherjee on February 10, 2014.
