Lucknow, Jan 25 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that when the ‘nation first’ feeling is there, everybody gets the benefits of government schemes without any discrimination.
He was addressing a programme in Lucknow organised for the transfer of scholarships and fee reimbursements to the bank accounts of students.
The chief minister said, “When the feeling of ‘family first’ is there, then corruption takes place, and when the feeling of ‘nation first’ is there, then everybody gets the benefits of the government schemes without any discrimination.” Hitting out at the previous Samajwadi Party government in the state, Adityanath said, “If intentions are good and policies are clear, the demon of corruption can be controlled. Just think… nine years ago, a student studying for his degree was deprived of his scholarship due to corruption.” He alleged that this was because the government’s intentions were “not pure” at that time, and favouritism was rampant.
Adityanath claimed that the scholarships did not reach the poor under previous governments due to nepotism, corruption and negligence.
“Sometimes, the government’s intentions were flawed, sometimes nepotism came in the way and sometimes departmental corruption prevented the money from reaching poor students,” Adityanath said, further alleging that scholarships fell prey to corruption on many levels.
“Today, a scholarship amount of Rs 944.55 crore has been directly transferred to the bank accounts of students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, general category, and minority communities through DBT (direct benefit transfer),” Adityanath said, claiming that the “demon of corruption” can be controlled.
“The amount was transferred to the accounts of 19 lakh students simultaneously with a single click. Was the scholarship given based on someone’s face? No. It was given because it was their need, as every student has the right to education.
“There is no shortage of money. Every eligible student should receive the benefit of the scholarship. The government has started providing this facility to all the people of the state without any discrimination,” the chief minister added.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “priority to the underprivileged, preference to the backward”, he said the government’s goal is that no student should be deprived of education.
“Through technology, e-governance has been transformed into easy governance, ensuring transparency,” he said, adding that his government’s schemes are making young people self-reliant and enabling them to participate in nation-building.
He also claimed that the condition of government schools has been transformed through Operation Kayakalp.
“Now, schools have proper buildings, teachers, facilities and quality education,” the chief minister said.
The education system has been strengthened through pre-primary education in Anganwadi centres, the Nutrition Mission, Kasturba Gandhi schools, Atal Residential Schools and composite schools, Adityanath said and also lauded the Abhyudaya coaching scheme, which helps prepare for NEET, JEE and UPSC exams.
He said the government is paying special attention to skill development, robotics, drone technology, and sports infrastructure.
“Playgrounds are being built in every village, mini-stadiums at the block level, and the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University is being constructed in Meerut,” the chief minister added.
He also extended his best wishes to the people of Uttar Pradesh on the eve of the 77th Republic Day. PTI NAV PRK PRK
