Gadchiroli (Maharashtra), July 16 (PTI) Naxalites have conceded in a purported `circular’ that at least 357 of its cadres including senior leaders have been killed in the past one-and-half years.
The Central Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) has come out with the 22-page statement — which has gone viral on social media — with an appeal to observe the “memorial week” from July 28 to August 3 in the memory of the Naxalites killed in the action by security forces.
As many as 357 Naxalites including 136 women were killed, and the organisation lost general secretary Basavaraj (B R) and another three members of the Central Committee and 15 members of the State Committee, it said.
The reason for these setbacks was “improper implementation” of rules of guerrilla war and tactics, the circular said.
Commenting on the circular, Gadchiroli superintendent of police Neelotpal told PTI, “It shows that Maoists are totally demoralised after heavy losses inflicted by the security forces. They don’t have any option other than surrendering and joining the mainstream of democracy.” PTI CLS COR KRK
