KVIC distributes Rs 299 crore subsidy to PMEGP beneficiaries

Under the new initiative, the central zone of KVIC has received the largest share of the subsidy with Rs 75.17 crore distributed to 2017 beneficiaries.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has distributed a subsidy of Rs 299.25 crore to 7444 beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) through video conference. This was done by the KVIC as part of the celebrations of the ‘Modi Government’s third term, a PIB press release stated.

Under the new initiative, the central zone of KVIC has received the largest share of the subsidy with Rs 75.17 crore distributed to 2017 beneficiaries, followed by the eastern zone with Rs 22.92 crore, the northern zone with Rs 91.78 crore, the northeast zone with Rs 9.2 crore, the south zone with Rs 72.97 crore, and the west zone with Rs 27.13 crore, according to a statement by the KVIC.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is working on a plan to expand the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) to increase the quality and reach of products related to the village industry. In the last 10 years, the KVIC has distributed an online subsidy of Rs 24520.19 crore to 9.40 lakh new projects under the PMEGP scheme, which has provided employment to more than 81.48 lakh people. For the next financial year, the government has also approved a subsidy of more than Rs 24520.19 crore for the PMEGP scheme. Under this scheme, 52 percent of the units are for SC/ST categories and women, while 80 percent of the PMEGP units are set up in rural areas.
The ‘Make in India’ initiative aims to make the country self-sufficient and secure by increasing the production of local products and handicrafts. The government expects that this initiative will create more jobs and opportunities in the rural areas.
