New Delhi: There is good news for the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer “Pathaan” which hits cinemas this Republic Day weekend as more and more people are aiming to catch a movie in theatres these days, a survey has found.

The study, conducted by LocalCircles, revealed that 28% of respondents plan to go to a movie theatre or a multiplex at least once in the next 60 days, with 6% twice or more. Over 26% have watched a movie in a cinema in the last 60 days, it found.

Compared to a year ago, there has been a 150% increase in the number of people who plan to go to a movie theatre over the next 60 days, the survey said.

Under the study titled “Citizen Pulse on Cinema Halls”, citizens were asked how often they had visited a theatre or a multiplex in the last 60 days, and how often they planned to in the future.

Over 20,000 citizens from 295 districts participated in the study. Of them, 26% reported seeing a movie in November and December, 2022, of which 5% had gone more than once; 38% did not go at all while 36% said they didn’t watch movies in multiplexes or cinema halls.

With the option of OTT, the survey found that regular movie-goers preferred to go to theaters for a blockbuster or a special event among friends and family. Most respondents, 42%, were from tier 1 cities, 36% from tier 2 and 22% from tier 3, 4 and rural areas.

Compared to last year’s data, the survey noted a 150% increase in the number of respondents who plan to go to a movie theatre over the next 60 days.

There has been a significant rise in those who definitely want to go at least once — 28% in January 2023 as against 12% in December 2021.

Refer multiple visits, the figure stood at 6% now than the 2% in December 2021.
