Mandi (HP), Nov 13 (PTI) A total of 604 students were awarded degrees during the 13th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi on Thursday, according to a statement issued here.

This year’s convocation showcased IIT Mandi’s growing reputation for academic excellence, research impact, and innovation-driven learning, preparing next-generation entrepreneurs.

Among the 604 students, 71 PhD, 245 postgraduates, and 288 B.Tech graduates received their degrees.

Among them, 25 per cent were females, a statement issued here said.

Former director general, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, the chief guest at the event, emphasised the importance of innovation for sustainable development and encouraged graduates to lead with empathy and integrity in addressing national goals and global challenges.

“Students must think about how they can contribute to the success of the nation. Science and technology should help society and should not be used in ugly events like the one that happened in Delhi. Science without humanity isn’t useful,” he added.

“IIT Mandi continues to nurture a vibrant ecosystem of learning and innovation in the Himalayas. Over the years, IIT Mandi has established itself as a hub of interdisciplinary research that bridges technological advancements and human values,” said Director, IIT Mandi, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera.

Stating that the missile era has been converted into the drone era, Behera said that ten drones were sent by IIT Mandi during Operation Sindoor.

“Our graduates are not only brilliant engineers and scientists but also attend to challenges of sustainability through technological innovations that resonate with our local and national priorities,” he added.

This year’s convocation was especially significant as it witnessed the graduation of the first batches from the newly introduced B.Tech–M. Tech Dual Degree, B.Tech with Second Major, and B.Tech with Specialization programs — a milestone reflecting IIT Mandi’s dynamic and future-oriented approach to education.

For the first time, the institute also granted degrees in “B.Tech with Specialization in Entrepreneurship,” strengthening its expanding focus on an interdisciplinary and experiential learning ecosystem, the statement added. PTI COR BPL HIG HIG
