Patna, Jan 6 (PTI) Criticising the controversial slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah at JNU, Union minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday slammed the opposition, alleging that they have turned the campus into the “den” of those who want to “break the country”.
After the Supreme Court denied bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case on Monday, controversial slogans were allegedly raised on the campus. A purported video of the incident went viral on social media.
“They say that they will dig the graves of PM Modi and Amit Shah. Well, Modi and Shah will dig the graves of India’s enemies,” Singh asserted.
“I believe some people have turned JNU into a hangout for the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang. People with distorted mindsets like (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi, as well as the TMC and Communists, have formed this gang. These people do not even respect the SC, and raise slogans in support of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam,” he said.
Singh, the textile minister, said those having a “Pakistani mindset” will not be tolerated in the country.
“The graves of enemies have been dug before, and they will be dug again,” he said.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by the women’s wing of the BJP, Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar termed the incident “unfortunate”, and said action should be taken against “those involved in anti-national activities”.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who was also present at the event, emphasised the need to “teach a lesson” to those who “display anti-national sentiment”.
“People who speak the language of terrorism and extremism, and display anti-national sentiments, will be taught a lesson,” Sinha said.
Sinha asserted that terrorism was nearing its end in the country, and the time has come to eliminate the “snakes” who support terrorists.
Bihar minister and former BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal also called for “severe punishment” for those who raised such slogans.
“Those who speak against the country and its leaders, and harbour anti-national sentiments, have no right to live here,” he added. PTI SUK SOM RBT
