Ahmedabad: Two men from Nagaland were allegedly attacked by a mob of 10 “for selling non-vegetarian and northeastern food” in the Chanakyapuri region of Ahmedabad.

A first information report (FIR) of the alleged incident was lodged in the Sola police station, as tweeted by BJP MP Temjen Imna Along.

The two were identified as Rovimezo Kehie and Mapuyanger Jamir. They worked at a shop and eatery called “One Stop Northeast” in Chanakyapuri.

In an interview to The Times of India, Kehie said, “There were about ten men who attacked us. They kept saying how we could sell non-vegetarian and northeastern food in a place like Gujarat which is dominated by Hindus.”

According to the FIR filed by Kehie, some men beat him and Jamir with baseball bats. Kehie sustained injuries on his head while Jamir too was injured in the alleged attack. Both men were rushed to Sola Civil Hospital after the attack.

Kehie said he was at a friend’s house when his employer called him around 8 pm Sunday. He rushed back to the restaurant to see several men assaulting Jamir. He said the men threatened to kill them if they continued to sell non-vegetarian food in the city.

“One Stop Northeast” sells exotic vegetables and non-vegetarian items like chicken, pork, Korean noodles and varieties of north-eastern rice. A complaint of causing harm, using abusive language and abetment has been lodged against the unknown attackers.
