Raipur, Jan 6 (PTI) Chhattisgarh’s COVID-19 count jumped to 10,14,528 on Thursday with an addition of 2,400 fresh cases, up from 1,615 infections a day ago, while the death toll rose to 13,606 after one more patient succumbed to the disease in the state, an official said.
Senior BJP legislator and Leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly Dharamlal Kaushik said has tested positive for coronavirus.
As many as 33 interns and three senior doctors of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur (AIIMS-R) have tested COVID-19 positive in the last four to five days, an official of the premier health facility said.
The number of recoveries reached 9,94,017 after 18 people were discharged from hospitals, while 38 others completed their home isolation during the day, the official said.
The state now has 6,905 active cases.
Raipur district reported 752 new infections, taking the caseload to 1,60,389, including 3,143 deaths. The district has 2,080 active cases, he said.
Bilaspur recorded 326 cases followed by Durg 314, Raigarh 247, Jashpur 144 and Janjgir-Champa 126, among other districts, he said.
With 48,832 swab samples examined during the day, the number of COVID-19 tests in the state went up to 1,51,25,871, the official said.
“As many as 33 interns of AIIMS, Raipur have been found COVID-19 positive in the last four to five days. These include 14 girls. Apart from them, three senior doctors have also tested positive for the infection,” the institute’s PRO, SS Sharma, told PTI.
“The interns have been quarantined in their respective hostels and their condition is normal,” he added.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Kaushik on Thursday took to Twitter to disclose that he has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
“My Covid test report has come positive. All who came in contact with me these days should get their Covid test done and follow the Covid rules and guidelines, ” Kaushik said in his tweet.
