New Delhi: Rau’s IAS Study Circle, the institute for aspiring civil servants with centres in Delhi and Bengaluru, issued a statement Sunday offering condolences to families of three aspirants who drowned in the flooded basement of its centre in the Capital’s Old Rajinder Nagar area.
“RAU’s IAS Study Circle is fully committed to supporting the ongoing investigations into this tragic incident. We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and agencies to ensure that all necessary information is provided and that the investigation proceeds with the utmost diligence,” it said.
The statement added that the institute, with centres in Delhi and Bengaluru, is “dedicated to assisting in any way possible to uncover the truth and ensure accountability”.
It went on to say that the management at Rau’s IAS Study Circle “remain steadfast in our commitment to providing support to the affected families and addressing any concerns that arise from this incident”.
As ThePrint reported earlier, three aspirants preparing for UPSC with the Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar drowned Saturday evening after rainwater poured into the library located in the basement of the four-storey building that houses the coaching centre.
The deceased have been identified as Tanya Soni (25) from Telangana, Shreya Yadav (25) from Uttar Pradesh and Nevin Delvin (28) from Kerala.
The deaths triggered protests Sunday during which students and UPSC aspirants blocked Pusa Road at Karol Bagh metro station and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
Delhi Police, meanwhile, booked and arrested the owner and coordinator of the Rau’s IAS Study Circle in connection with the deaths.
On Saturday night, Delhi minister Atishi instructed the chief secretary to initiate a magisterial inquiry into the deaths and submit a report within 24 hours.
