The Union Ministry for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) has approved the development of a new agri-export facility at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai.
The project is worth Rs. 284.19 crores and is expected to benefit farmers, exporters, and rural communities, said a press statement by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
The new facility will be of 67,422 square meters and will include a frozen store of 1800 metric tonnes, a cold store of 5800 metric tonnes, and dry warehouses with a capacity of 12,000 metric tonnes. The facility is expected to increase the export capacity of frozen food and meat products from Maharashtra.
The development of this all-in-one agricultural facility at JNPA will streamline logistics, reduce wastages, and provide better prices for agricultural products, said Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal.
JNPA is the first major port of the country operating 100 percent on the PPP model. The port is expected to handle an annual cargo of 23 million TEUs or 254 million tons.
