Chandigarh, Feb 11 (PTI) Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa’s counsel on Wednesday said the leader of opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly did not make any objectionable remarks against minister Harbhajan Singh.

Bajwa’s denial came through his counsel Arvind Kumar Sachdeva, who appeared before the chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission in a case of his alleged objectionable remarks against Harbhajan Singh.

Bajwa was summoned by Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi for an explanation over his remarks.

Sachdeva, who appeared with a written reply on behalf of Bajwa, presented clarification and said that no caste-sensitive remarks were made by the Congress leader.

Some other supporting documents along with his clarification were also presented, said Garhi.

Sachdeva informed that Bajwa is out of Punjab and they should be given 15 more days to provide additional submissions, if any.

Garhi said that while accepting the request of Bajwa’s lawyer, the next date for the hearing has been fixed as February 26.

During the hearing, he also said a legal opinion will be taken on the documents submitted by Bajwa through his counsel and only after that a decision will be taken in this matter.

Bajwa has been under fire from the ruling AAP over his remark against Singh.

While accusing Singh of indulging in corruption, the LoP had said the Congress would take him to task after it forms the government.

“Jehra pehle band vajaanda reha, ehda band asin vajaavange (He who used to be a band player will be taken to task by us),” Bajwa had said referring to Singh.

The minister hit back, saying mocking honest, hard-earned livelihoods was shameful. He said his father was a band master who educated his children through sheer hard work. PTI CHS KSS KSS
