Among those injured, many are stated to be critical and are currently being treated at Raj Medicity in Imphal. According to reports, the armed miscreants came wearing police uniforms in four vehicles before opening fire at around 7.30 pm.

The deceased, whose bodies were brought to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal for post-mortem examination, have been identified as Mohammad Daulat (30), M. Sirajuddin (50), Mohammad Azad Khan (40) and Mohammad Hussain (22), an official from the hospital told reporters.

Following the incident, two Maruti Gypsy cars used by the perpetrators have been burnt down by an angry mob.

Meanwhile, an indefinite curfew has been imposed in all Valley districts and additional forces have also been reportedly moved to sensitive areas.

Amid tensions in Imphal following the incident, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has appealed to all the Manipuri Muslims and Meitei people to remain calm.

In a video shared by him on various social media platforms, Singh assured that the state government will identify the culprits behind the incident.
