New Delhi: The Delhi Metro is all set to resume services on 7 September, five months after it was forced to suspend operations due to the Covid-19 situation. The resumption of services will take place in phases.
To ensure safe and smooth running of the trains, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has come up with various safety measures inside trains as well as outside the stations.
The resumption of services will begin with the Delhi Metro’s yellow line that runs from Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre. More lines will open up in phases, and by 12 September, all lines will be running.
In the first phase, metro services will operate in two shifts — from 7 to 11 am and 4 to 8 pm. From 12 September, the hours will go back to the pre-lockdown timings — from 6 am to 11 pm.
At every station, one gate will be used for entry and exit. Signboards will be placed inside stations displaying Covid-19 safety norms. To make people aware of preventive measures, two announcement stations, one at the entrance and another near the frisking point, will also be placed.
The metro authority has also installed sanitiser dispensers and thermal scanners at the entry/frisking point of the stations. Red floor markings have been made on stations for travellers to maintain social distancing.
There will be no tokens available at the stations and travellers have to use smart cards to avail the services. To recharge the cards, ticket vending machines can be used via debit, credit or Bharat QR code. One can recharge them online too.
