Proceeds of ‘The Kashmir Files’ won’t go to Kashmiri Pandits, viral image’s claim is fake

In a video, Agnihotri when questioned about the proceeds going to Kashmiri Pandits, denies it by saying “Kamai hogi tab baat karenge”(we’ll see when the movie earns).

New Delhi: A post has been doing the rounds on social media sites, especially Twitter, which claims that all proceeds from the ‘nationalistic’ movie would go to Kashmiri Pandits who suffered tremendously due to their exodus from the valley.

People shared the viral post and requested others to take 50 to 100 children along with them to the movies and to “open their eyes to the truth”. The post also claimed that every penny of the movie would go to efforts made to relocate Kashmiri Pandits back to the valley.

Another Twitter user in support of the alleged move said, “some people claim the movie was just a cash-grab, but they must take note of this announcement of Vivek Agnihotri”

In another instance, the director’s exchange on the same topic went viral, where he seemingly clapped back at an IAS officer and author from MP who advised the producers to donate the money for the education of the children who suffered and to rebuild houses of Kashmiri Pandits.

Agnihotri replied to the IAS officer and asked for his appointment to discuss ideas of how he could help with royalties from his books in his position as an IAS officer.

Fact Check

Neither the producers of the movie nor director Vivek Agnihotri have made any statement publicly to support the post that claims proceeds would go to Kashmiri Pandits.

On the other hand, there’s another video where Agnihotri is questioned about donating earnings to Kashmiri Pandits. He clearly replies: “Kamai hogi tab baat karenge”(we’ll see when the movie earns).

This is clearly in contradiction to the viral post. Meanwhile, the movie has earned upwards of Rs 190 cr, according to Bollywood Hungama.
