New Delhi: As India recorded the highest spike in daily cases since the beginning of the pandemic, the test positivity rate (TPR) also increased to 11.5 per cent — the highest since May.
Maharashtra’s TPR is disproportionately high at 28 per cent. Chhattisgarh too has a high TPR at 19 per cent. Other states with high active cases such as Karnataka and Kerala have a much lower TPR.
R value

India’s effective reproduction rate (R) , which indicates how fast the infection is spreading, has increased to 1.30 — the highest since April 2020.
Active cases

Active cases in India increased to 7,41,830 — the highest since October. Maharashtra continues to have the highest number of active cases in the country, followed by Karnataka.
Daily Cases

Over the last 24 hours, 1,03,558 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the country — the highest number of cases reported in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic. With this, India surpassed the previous peak of 97,894 cases recorded on 16 September.
Number of deaths

In India, 478 deaths were reported across the country over the last 24 hours, taking the country’s total Covid-19 death toll to 1,65,101.
Mortality rate

The overall fatality rate for India reduced to 1.31. Punjab’s case fatality reduced to 2.81 — which is still the highest in the country. Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 1.85 while that of Sikkim is 2.16.
The rapid drop in CFR can be attributed to the increase in the percentage of active cases across India.
Daily vaccinations

As many as 16,38,464 doses of vaccines were administered across the country in the last 24 hours. So far 7,91,05,163 vaccine doses have been administered in India.
As many as 1,04,26,325 people have received both doses of the vaccine in India so far.
Daily tests

In the last 24 hours, 8,93,749 Covid-19 tests were carried out across 1,228 government laboratories and 1,214 private laboratories. Over 24.9 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Test Positivity Rate

The test positivity over the last 24 hours increased to 11.5 per cent. TPR above 10 per cent indicates that tests conducted are not sufficient. The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, increased to five per cent.
Recovered cases

As many as 52,847 patients have been discharged from Covid-19 hospitals across India in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,16,82,136.
Total cases

As many as 1,25,89,067 people in India have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with Highest Active Cases

Active cases in Maharashtra increased to 4,31,896, with 57,074 new cases reported from the state since yesterday.
A total of 30,10,597 people from Maharashtra have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 55,878 people have died, with 222 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Active cases in Karnataka increased to 39,111 on Monday, with 4,553 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
A total of 10,15,155 Covid-19 cases have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
With 15 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll increased to 12,625.
Chhattisgarh reported 5,250 new cases in the last 24 hours. Active cases in the state rose to 38,450 Monday.
A total of 3,69,046 cases were detected from the state since the beginning of the pandemic. As many as 36 Covid-19 patients have died in the state in the last 24 hours, which takes the Covid-19 death toll to 4,319.
In Kerala, active Covid-19 cases increased to 28,206, with 2,802 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
This takes the total number of cases detected from the state to 11,35,233 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 10 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 4,668.
In Punjab, active cases increased to 25,314, with 3,006 new cases of Covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours.
A total of 2,51,460 people in the state have reported to be Covid-19 positive since the beginning of the pandemic. With 51 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 7,083.
