New Delhi: India has recorded 6,050 new cases of Covid in the last 24 hours, with active cases now at 28,303, news agency ANI reported.

The rise in cases continues unabated as Friday’s numbers show a 13% jump from the day before.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will chair a review meeting with counterparts of all states and Union Territories on Friday afternoon.

Two days ago, the Covid empowerment working group met to assess the country’s preparedness in light of increasing cases. The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) also attended the meeting.

Mandaviya, however, had assuaged concerns but said everyone needed to be alert. “Currently, the sub-variant of Omicron which is circulating in the country hasn’t increased hospitalisation,” the minister said Thursday.

On Thursday, India had recorded 5,335 new cases – the highest single-day rise in six months. The country’s recovery rate is currently at 98.75%.
