New Delhi: The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and WRI India have partnered to enhance green skill development in India. On 2 April, the two signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to address the green skill gap and create training programmes for sustainable jobs.
The initiative, according to a press statement issued by WRI India, will focus on “reskilling and upskilling individuals in key sectors such as manufacturing, services, and agriculture”.
It will also support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing market-relevant skills to help them transition to sustainable business practices.
“As the demand for green jobs grows worldwide, NSDC and WRI India will design training programmes that match global opportunities, creating new avenues for Indian workers in international markets,” the statement added.
It quoted NSDC CEO Ved Mani Tiwari as saying that India’s shift to a green economy presents a major opportunity to equip its workforce with future-ready skills. “This partnership will play a key role in training youth and MSMEs, ensuring India emerges as a global hub for green talent,” he said.
WRI India CEO Madhav Pai highlighted the need for skill-based solutions in a low-carbon future. “This collaboration will integrate research-driven insights with practical skilling strategies to empower businesses and individuals,” he said.
The press statement went on to add that NSDC and WRI India will “design industry-aligned curriculums to arm individuals with skills for green jobs and self-employment”.
