New Delhi: Whisky aficionados in China were able to savour seven of India’s finest single malts earlier this month, courtesy the Indian embassy in Beijing.
The embassy held an Indian whisky-tasting event on 5 March, hosted by Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat, which showcased premium single malts from desi brands Amrut, Indri and Paul John.
“A step towards introducing more of India’s finest to the world!” said the embassy in a post on the social media platform X.
It further said that the event, inaugurated by Ambassador Rawat, welcomed whisky experts as well as enthusiasts of China to taste “seven exceptional Indian whiskies”.
“The tasting was followed by a dinner featuring Indian delicacies that perfectly complemented the whiskies,” the post said. Those at the event were also treated to snacks and dishes endemic to India.

‘Indian fare’
Earlier this month, the embassy held an event to showcase Indian spices, with popular Chinese dishes served using authentic masala from the subcontinent including cumin, fenugreek, coriander, black pepper and dried ginger.
The dinner followed an embassy meeting between Chinese importers and Indian exporters on the trade of Indian spices to China.
“A Buyer-Seller Meet was held at the Embassy of India, Beijing on 27 February 2024 to bring the flavours of Indian spices to China. 40 Chinese spice importers and leading spice exporters from India interacted at the meeting. A promising step towards stronger trade ties.#spices,” the embassy had said in a post on X at the time.
