What exactly are Ms. Das and Ms. Sen celebrating? The question posed to Ms. Sen by the audience upon the screening of Paroma in Calcutta, remains unanswered. Is adultery an act of virtue? If it is, then why the institution of marriage? What is the test of filial commitment then? What then of the bonds and compact that tie a couple to each other? What of the responsibility of the parents to their children? What indeed, is then the issue with out if wedlock childbirth? Are Ms. Das and Ms. Sen advocating that adultery, for long found to be a moral outrage in men, is elevated to a high and courageous act, when committed by women? If so, then by extension are the implying that society should willfully wither to an anarchic vicariousness? Where there should be no rules, no principles, no ethics. Only a false vanity, egged on by a muddled mix of egotism and / or ennui? WHAT are you arguing in favour of Ms. Das and Ms.Sen? Are we, in India, to blindly accept every imported mores by a narrow coterie of cultural elite, that believes, it is their right to destroy the fabric of society and the structure of family. How is this liberating? How is this liberation? Is this beneficial to women? Will someone, anyone… care to enlighten us? Strange!
Dear sir,
I think the consequences of their actions have skipped your mind, but it didn’t skip the directors’ minds in this regard. Both the women in the respective films pay the price for what they do, in first case, she becomes a shell of a woman and in the second case, this is dealt more extensively as the protagonist is shamed and abandoned by everybody in her life, alienated to the point that she is on the verge of committing suicide. Both women are bold enough to accept the fact they did it and aren’t afraid of what they did. Is that what bothers you sir? The fact that two women who pay the price of what they did with absolute boldness destroys the fabric of a country? In a country where every year several films are churned to show women as mere body,I see that particularly skipped your observation.
Lstn Mrs. Sen……you don’t have any quality to compare between satyajit ray and you. Your problem is adultery is the big factor for you story and the moral mssg is nothing. Satyajit ray don’t want to show the adultry sean in pikoo film. Its only your provocation to forcefully creat a adultery sean. Many more film director great a very good art film. But there was no need to highlight the adultery sean to show these film. Like mrinal sen, hrithik ghatak….are they not a best directors of Indian cinema????? Satyajit ray’ S direction how much perfect u ever cant can’t understand. He makes one dialog in pikoo film and the dialog was says everything——-আমার বালিশে চুল ছিল। আমার না। told everything with this two lines. If you have to create this then u create the hole calamities. This is your mentality. Go and create the second great art film or blue film.
I feel a story teller is having liberty to depict character/s as per his opinion. It may not match with the conceived perception of majority. Now when he express his opinion he should be bold enough to express it without bothering about backlash of criticism but if he wants to enjoy box office success he would write the story with popular views submerging his own view.
I think this movie has something to say but in our own mind people confused to one’s courage. Bengali audience could not support the issue – it’s right, but I think director has the potential to show the human mind is not occupied by the four walls of lives.

The two above mentioned films were made from different points of view. So no point of comparing them……
