Husain Haqqani, director for South and Central Asia at the Hudson Institute in Washington D.C., was Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States from 2008-11. His books include ‘Pakistan Between Mosque and Military,’ ‘India vs Pakistan: Why Can’t we be Friends’ and ‘Reimagining Pakistan.’
Distorted facts by a distorted mind in order to paint to distorted picture. From someone who has gone from a US apologist in brown skin to being a hired gun for God knows who. It would be interesting if his next piece was an evaluation of the German Ambassador to India. Lousy scholarship for hire is what this article ought to have been captioned.
Insightful.
Well made points on the expectation from an ambassador and where Herr Kobler apparently falls short. But I cannot agree with using this German ambassador as a whipping boy for criticism directed at the country of his posting. Ambassadors from other countries to Saudi Arabia do not constantly revile KSA’s high profile murderers of journalists and critics whatever their feelings.
Ambassadors serve their own government according to their individual personality, whichever way they do their job is fine as long as their actions do not clash with their core duties to their own country. Winning friends and influencing ordinary people in the host country is hardly a drawback or reason for censure even if the host country’s government policies are disliked.
I can imagine that Kobler would have done quite well in a country with no real concerns or issues. Maybe Kobler as german ambassador to portugal would have had a good time AND have nothing material to do. A perfect sinecure is where kobler could have done so well.
Mr. Hussain Haqqani is in habit of selling his mother—land for any size of pennies.
He would mention terrorism, but wouldn’t ever mention the fight against it which the complete nation and armed forces successfully did. He would mention human right violations but never mention how poor Pakistani are one of the most charitable nations of the world.. He must use “Burnol” on every tweet of respected Kobler.
It is remarkable funny that he speaks of Italy and Germany in the 1930s and publishes this article in Modi ruled India, no?
Actually, no! He talks a lot of sense, but it is good to see Pakistanis not believing him. Because it is only when the state is completely bankrupt that the Pakistani GHQ will admit defeat. Only then will Pakistan rise again. So the faster the current fall, the sooner the next rise.
Hussain Haqqani is part of Pakistan People Party. They are known of corruption, corruption and corruption.
A “dalla” remains a “dalla” no matter where he is? stinking Haqqani??
